Yes, I know there are people in almost every photo here, but a few are worth mentioning specially. One day, I took a cab out to the Hanoi suburbs to take lunch with Chuc and her family. Her husband led the team that first synthesized the anti-malaria drug artemisinin in Vietnam. We had a delicious meal and I found out a lot about the work to bring this life-saving drug to Vietnam. Hopefully, I’ll be writing about this in due course.
Another meet-up in Hanoi was with Kate (SystaBB), an Australian DJ who I’ve been listening to for years online. It was a real blast to share a few Singapore Slings with her on the deck at (a very deserted) Press Club.
Sadly, I didn’t manage to meet up with an old school friend, Paul, who now lives in Hanoi also. So here are some pictures of Hanoi locals to compensate! Watching an artist at work…
Viet skaters practising hip-hop in a colonial bandstand!
And the city’s most famous resident, ‘Uncle’ Ho, now embalmed, waxed and available for a swift, eerie visit every day between 8 and 11am.
