Start of a Hartstene summer

Woo hoo! First hot day at Hartstene, so what better time to pull out the power tools and clear some brush? Work broke down into about 70% talking, 20% chainsaws and 10% getting thorns in our hands. But the results looked great (er, not pictured).

After Trika arrived at lunchtime, we headed up to the trail Karen and I made earlier in the year to see if we could still see it. We could (just) and engaged in some light salal macheteing.

The most exciting bit was spotting a small saw whet owl, who fluttered down to check us out (and vice versa). So exciting, in fact, that I thought I deserved a break.

Before the evening’s strenuous activities of playing croquet and eating a huge family-style dinner. Another perfect Hartstene weekend.
